CONNECTIONS.
When I began the process of this painting I had two intentions…
- To connect to my creativity, in a longer uninterrupted session – it had been far too long since I had created this way resorting over the school holidays to quick watercolours and sketches in my journal.
- To ground myself in the ritual of creating – the feel of the paint on the canvas, seeing the image appear out of chaos and slipping into the creative flow.
When I plan a longer, uninterrupted session, I always begin with a quick, quiet contemplation, not really a meditation, but more a moment of finding the creative spark within. I hold my hands on my heart and ask for guidance; I ask the divine to flow through me. I ask for my creative muses to flow and that any judgement and criticism is left behind.
Sometimes, like in this session, I will free-write any thoughts filtering
through onto the canvas. I scribble my intentions and any ideas I may have about what I want the painting to become.
What poured out was a heartfelt message about connecting to self, about connecting with my light and my shadow, to connecting with my past, present and future, and to connecting with the environment surrounding me.
I wrote about coming back to myself. That I am exactly as I am meant to be in this very moment – and when I connect my heart, body and soul I am everything.
Once she started to take form on the canvas, I saw her stillness and grace starting to peek through, and although her ugly phase lasted a little longer than most, as she fully took form, I saw the acceptance of herself, of her flaws, of her light and shadow, and her heart and soul.

CONNECTIONS is about renewing my connection to my surroundings, my mind, my soul and my body. She reminds me that it takes seconds to place my hand on my heart and breathe deeply. She reminds me that peace is found in those connections.
If you find you need the same reminder, CONNECTIONS is available to own as the original painting or as prints. See the links below for details.
I love learning about how other people connect and ground themselves, so if you are comfortable sharing how you connect and ground, please do so in the comments
