ON THE TENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS….
WE TOOK A BREAK AND HUNG OUT AT HOME
Up until the weekend before Christmas we often find ourselves racing around here and feeling exhausted. I think every one is.
So a couple of years ago I decided to add a new tradition into our little family, that the weekend before Christmas we should take a day, put on the air cons and watch our favourite movies all day!
Sometimes its a Christmas movie, but more often than not it is which ever movie the terrible trio are obsessed with at the time. (like the lion king or harry potter or star wars!)
And while I am often not interested in watching the lion king for the hundredth time, I will often sit with them wrapping presents or finding a Christmassy romance to read.
I know we are not the only ones absolutely flat out and exhausted at this time of year, so adding in this little self care practice is a blessing!!
And considering this is the hottest December on record (43 + 44 degree days) this is a fabulous way to rest and recharge.
Our favourite Christmas Movies that the kids and I love to veg out in front of include:
- The Christmas Chronicles (a late addition to the list, but a fun movie just the same!)
- Home Alone (merry Christmas ya filthy animals!)
- The Nightmare Before Christmas (the coolest king and his queen Sally!)
- The Grinch (both version of this movie are on our list!)
- National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (love love love this one!)
- Die Hard (not a traditional Christmas movie, and not one for the girls but a great one to watch at this time of year!)
How do you add self care to your holiday prep?? I would love to know what practices you have to keep you sane in these crazy moments! And what are your favourite movies to veg out in front of at this time of year? Let me know in the comments or hit reply!
And for my fellow NSW people please stay safe – whether it be from fire or heat or drought we are being absolutely hammered at the moment!
TOMORROW – some tags, some craft some fun!
