On the Fifth day of Christmas….

ON THE FIFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS

– WE MADE HAND MADE GIFTS (PART I)

Every year I try (emphasis on try!) to make a hand made gift. Some years it they have been more extravagant than others.

In fact one year we decided to do a fully hand made Christmas. And while this was a fabulous idea and I loved the creativity and the ideas we came up with I was up to three o’clock every morning trying to get these presents finished.

And folks this is NOT conducive to the relaxed Christmas vibe I was trying for!

So while I love adding handmade elements to everyone on my present list, I haven’t yet done a fully handmade Christmas again. (Let’s face it – as a master procrastinator I would not start this project in July like most sensible people!)

But one of the presents I made from that year was a very cute project with Rocks and you can make this in an afternoon it is that simple!

As my recipient was a keen gardener I wanted to make garden markers.

I washed the rocks painted a white circular background + then painted some  little vegetables + fruits on the rocks with acrylic paint.Veggie markers - iI used a sharpie to outline the veggies and write the name of the marker on it.

Finally after I let it dry for a day I sprayed the rocks with my varnish.

I absolutely adored how these turned out. So vibrant + totally cute. I wrapped them in tissue and found a cute box to put them in.

Five years later they are a little faded but they are still legible and still super cute.

Other ways I have used rocks in projects was for my wedding to Mac – we used local Raasay rocks and chalk pens for our seating arrangements. You could do this for your Christmas Lunch guests as place holders.

I have written inspiring words on rocks that I have found and collected on my walks and travels which I keep in a little dish in my bed room – maybe you know some one who is also inspired by this idea?

Other ways you could use rocks could be to:

☆ Paint nordic runes on them
☆ paint little creatures on them
☆ make mandala dot rocks
☆ just paint them in super bright colours for your recipient to decorate
☆ write little affirmations or quotes on them
☆ paint little cacti and put in a tiny terracotta pot!
☆ paint fake strawberries for a strawberry patch to confuse the possums and magpies!

The ideas are endless when you start looking into it (pop over to my Handmade Gift Idea pinterest page to see more rock ideas!) Let me know if you end up making a gift from rocks and what you decided to put on them!

Tomorrow we will light up our Christmas!

DAY ONE  |  DAY TWO | DAY THREE | DAY FOUR
