I found this very beautiful painting of a Native American warhorse, the red, blue and white war paint dotted and circled the horses face. It’s mane braided with eagle feathers.
Fierce. Brave. Warrior.
And I wanted to paint one of my girls just like that.
Fierce. Brave. Warrior.
With paint on her face and feathers on her hair. But as so often happens in my painting journeys, the original vision for the painting transformed.
While I was painting this I was thinking about how underneath the very civilized veneer that I (and I bet many of us) show to the world, there is a fierce warrior just lurking underneath.
A warrior who would unleash the Mama Bear if any of her family or friends were threatened and who wouldn’t hesitate to jump in.
And in the original vision for my painting, I was going to paint the warrior marks over the top of her face painting, but then I realised that maybe she is a modern day warrior.
Her marks are there but just beneath the surface and subtle. She is perhaps underestimated, but she shouldn’t be because her warrior is there just beneath the surface.
Fierce. Brave. Warrior.
You can see her in person at Studio36a Cowra, or purchase her through my store
